Hairspray

“Set designer Ella Cerys Mae had really thought outside the box with the staging. It kept the movement flowing in this high energy show”
Sarah McPartlan, Musical Theatre Musings

About This Play
Hairspray is a high-energy musical set in1962 Baltimore, centered around Tracy Turnblad and her fight for racial integration on television. With catchy songs, colourful characters and a powerful message of acceptance and equality, Hairspray is a joyful celebration of individuality, progress, and the power of dance.
In my design, I tried to encapsulate the energy of the 1960s as well as all the joy bought by the dance numbers, whilst keeping the scenery versatile and adaptable to reflect the diverseness of the show itself onto the stage at Bridewell Theatre.
